LEGACY COUPLES

Celebrating LGBTQ+ Love

Established during the very first Miami Beach Pride in 2009, the Legacy Couples program recognizes same-sex couples who have been in committed relationships of 10 years or longer. This initiative not only honors enduring love, but also serves as a powerful reminder that visibility, resilience, and unity remain vital in the face of renewed threats to LGBTQ+ rights.

While all of us who are openly a part of the LGBTQ+ community are living and writing the history of our movement, it is oftentimes the hidden stories of our queer elders—those who loved boldly in the shadows, who fought when it was dangerous to be visible, and who stood at the forefront of the fight for equality and fairness—that paved the way for our community to live as freely as we do today. In today’s climate, where gains we fought so hard to achieve are under attack, their courage is not just history—it is a call to action.

We currently have 112 couples in our program spanning Baby Boomers, Gen Jones, Gen X, Millennials, and Gen Z. Together, they represent both the roots and the future of our community—living proof that love endures despite fear, despite discrimination, and despite efforts to erase us. Their stories ground us in our past, strengthen us in the present, and inspire us to keep fighting for a future where every LGBTQ+ person can live openly, safely, and with dignity.

LEGACY COUPLE REGISTRATION

Registration will be opening soon for Legacy Couples to participate in the 2026 Pride Parade. We invite couples who meet the criteria to march with us and be honored for their resilience and love. And we welcome everyone in our community—and allies—to join us in celebration and solidarity by cheering them on during the Parade on Sunday, April 12th at Noon along Ocean Drive. Pride’s Legacy Couples remind us that love is not only beautiful—it is revolutionary.
